Unit 19: PRESENT SIMPLE -- FORMATION
This formation is very important because we use it very often. The next unit tells you when you can use it. This unit shows you how to form it.
-S FORMUse the -s form (Unit 14) for 3rd person singular (Unit 2):
My boss works in the office.
The office gets really busy in the morning.
He has two quads.
BASE FORMUse the base form for all other persons:
I live at the hotel.
We travel by bus.
They have four work trucks.
does not + BASE FORMUse does not + base form for 3rd person singular:
He does not live at the hotel.
It does not go very fast.
She does not have a snowmobile.
do not + BASE FORMUse do not + base form for all other persons:
I do not work there.
We do not go by snowmobile.
They do not have a surveyor.
NOTICE: In speaking, we usually say doesn't or don't. (Unit 11) .
does + BASE FORMUse does + base form for 3rd person singular:
Does he work hard?
When does it open?
Does it rain often?
do + BASE FORMUse do + base form for all other persons:
Do they work hard?
When do we leave?
